The Conners 4th Edition (Conners 4®) is a product of six years of collaboration between several individuals, which has made working on its development an enriching and rewarding experience. We feel honored to have had the opportunity to work with Dr. C. Keith Conners, a leading contributor in the field of ADHD, whose wealth of clinical insight and direction throughout the project has been inspiring. Dr. Conners passed away during the development phase of the Conners 4; however, we were fortunate enough to finalize the conceptualization of the test and to work with Dr. Conners on the pilot items.

MHS recruited a number of professionals from various disciplines to serve as expert reviewers of the content of the Conners 4 test items. Thank you to all the experts who contributed to the revision of the Conners 4.

The following experts reviewed all Conners 4 test items for clinical relevance:

  • Margaret Weiss, M.D., PhD, Director of Clinical Research, Department of Child Psychiatry, Cambridge Health Alliance

  • A. Jordan Wright, PhD, Clinical Psychologist and Clinical Associate Professor of Counseling Psychology at the New York University Steinhardt School of Culture, Education, and Human Development

The following experts reviewed item content specific to aggression and severe conduct:

  • S. Alexandra Burt, PhD, Professor of Psychology at Michigan State University

  • Randall T. Salekin, PhD, Professor of Psychology, Director (Disruptive Behavior Clinic) at the University of Alabama

MHS also recruited several experts to aid in the development of the Conners 4th Edition Short (Conners 4®–Short) forms. This panel represented experts in the field of childhood ADHD. Each of these experts provided feedback on the core symptoms of ADHD from each of the Conners 4 scales.

  • Lily Hechtman, M.D., Psychiatrist, Professor of Psychiatry and Pediatrics, Director of Research (Division of Child Psychiatry), and Director of ADHD Psychiatry Services (Child Psychiatry Department) at McGill University

  • J. Russell Ramsay, PhD, Psychologist, Co-Founder and Co-Director (Adult ADHD Treatment and Research Program), and Associate Professor of Clinical Psychology in Psychiatry at the University of Pennsylvania

  • Mark Stein, PhD, Clinical Psychologist, Director (ADHD and Related Disorders Program), Professor of Psychiatry and Behavioral Science, and Professor of Pediatrics at Seattle Children’s Hospital

  • Maggie Toplak, PhD, Clinical Psychologist and Associate Professor of Psychology at York University

  • Margaret Weiss, M.D., PhD, Director of Clinical Research, Department of Child Psychiatry, Cambridge Health Alliance

  • Susan J. Young, DClinPsy, PhD, Registered Clinical and Forensic Psychologist, Director at Psychology Services Limited

In addition to seeking external input on clinical issues, MHS consulted with an expert in nondiscriminatory assessment and cross-cultural issues in assessment. Samuel Ortiz, PhD, Professor of Psychology at St. John’s University, reviewed the item content for potentially problematic linguistic or cultural issues (e.g., whether the intended item has significance or equivalency in cultures that commonly use the language).

We would also like to thank cApStAN for their work in creating the Spanish (U.S.) and French-Canadian translations of the Conners 4. cApStAn worked diligently to produce sound cultural translations of the test items and instructions.

Thank you to all the dedicated individuals who have contributed to the development of the Conners 4. Their tireless efforts are very much appreciated and have helped to realize the ambitious development goals that were set for this project.
