Chapter 2: Disabling Sensitive Content

Disabling Sensitive Content

view all chapter tables | print this section

There are two areas on the full-length Conners 4 that include some potentially highly sensitive content related to harm to self or others. The Self-Harm Critical Items include items that describe behaviors related to harm towards self. The DSM Conduct Disorder Symptoms scale (that includes all of the Severe Conduct Critical Items) consists of items related to aggression to people and animals, destruction of property, deceitfulness or theft, and serious violations of rules.

By default, these content areas are included in the full-length Conners 4. Although it is recommended that these items be included, there is an option to disable these components due to the sensitive nature of the content for certain assessment contexts. When setting up the administration in the online portal, the following can be disabled: Self-Harm Critical Items only, DSM Conduct Disorder Symptoms scale only, or both the Self-Harm Critical Items and the DSM Conduct Disorder Symptoms scale. Disabling these components means that these items will be removed from the administration of the full-length Conners 4 form. When removed, these items will not be considered omitted responses because they will not be part of the test that the rater completes, and as such, will not impact scoring. Thus, no scores or interpretation for these components will appear in the report. It should be noted, however, that disabling these components will need to be done for each administration (i.e., this setting is not saved for future administrations).
