MHS is proud to announce the arrival of the Conners 4th Edition (Conners 4®). The original Conners’ Rating Scales (CRS), first published in 1989, became our most successful product and the industry standard in child and adolescent assessment of ADHD and other disruptive disorders. The Conners’ Rating Scales were revised (CRS–R™) in 1997 to reflect updated norms and links to the DSM-IV, and the Conners 3rd Edition™ (Conners 3™) was published in 2008 to include updated norms and content based on newer research in the field of ADHD. The Conners 4 is the newest and most exciting revision to date. The Conners 4 specializes in assessing youth for ADHD and other related disorders that most commonly co-occur with ADHD.

It is a comprehensive tool that, in conjunction with other sources of information, aids in the diagnostic process as well as treatment evaluation and monitoring. The Conners 4 is a very versatile measure: different versions of the measure are available to suit your individual needs, including full-length and short versions, as well as an ADHD Index that can be used as a screening tool. While retaining the key strengths and components of the Conners 3, the Conners 4 now has significant improvements and updates. The Conners 4 has greater alignment with the Conners Adult ADHD Rating Scales 2nd Edition™ (CAARS 2™; Conners et al., 2022) to allow for a lifespan approach to the assessment of ADHD. Item content has been updated for equity and inclusion by focusing on fairness (with regards to gender and race/ethnicity among other variables) throughout the development process. The Validity Scales have been updated and a comprehensive Response Style Analysis section has been created to improve the ability to detect problematic response styles. New item level indicators have been included based on research that shows the importance of assessing potential self-harm thoughts and behaviors as well as sleep problems. The normative data have been updated to cover a wide variety of youth of different ages, races/ethnicities, parental education levels, and geographic locations throughout the U.S. and Canada. ADHD Reference Samples have also been included to allow for a greater understanding of the severity of a youth’s profile of scores when compared to youth with an ADHD diagnosis.

We would like to hear about your experiences with the Conners 4; your feedback is helpful for future refinements to and enhancements of the assessment.
